Am I Becoming a Vegan?

“If God didn’t make it don’t eat it.”

I heard a doctor say this once and it started to make me think. Although I don’t think this is completely wrong I don’t think its entirely true either. During a lazy afternoon, I decided to watch a documentary called What the Health on Netflix. If you haven’t seen it, oh my goodness its a real eye opener. It literally made me sick to my stomach. What I found even more interesting is that a lot of what I was reading about to help my son, followed this plant based diet that is discussed in the documentary.

One concept stood out a lot to me, the strongest animals only eat plants. It was a lot of information to take and its all true. The idea that we should be using food as medicine didn’t really occur to me until then. Here I am making sure that my son was only consuming the best, all organic, antibiotic free, blah, blah, blah. I had it all wrong. It doesn’t matter if the package says organic antibiotic free chicken its all fake and is literally killing me and my family.

Did I just become a vegan? Can I do that? I was completely ok giving up meat, fish and poultry, even milk, No problem. I wasn’t ever really that big of a fan anyway, I love my veggies. But what about cheese? Do I have to give up cheese? My son already has, so…. why wouldn’t I do it too.

Well I’m doing it. I’m currently 35 and I wouldn’t say that I’m an unhealthy person. I also can’t say that I don’t have any unhealthy habits. But my energy and strength is something I have noticed deteriorating. This could definitely be age or the fact that I have had four children, but I am willing to give this a shot. I mean it makes sense. Our guts hold the key to so many health issues, and by consuming animal we bring all the bacteria their bodies hold, into ours. The number of drugs these animals are taking or being injected with is insane. And it doesn’t stop there. What ever those animals are breathing and eating we eat too. Think about that for a second….

Don’t take medicine so you can eat certain foods, use food as your medicine. Acid reflux is something almost everyone in my home suffers with. Both my husband and son are on a daily medication for it. And no the medicine doesn’t cure it or slowly decrease it. It just covers up the symptoms for a short period of time. My father has diabetes, my father in law has diabetes, something has to change before myself and my kids follow suit.

Going back to “If God didn’t make it, don’t eat it” That means checking ingredients on everything especially those that are labeled Dairy Free or Gluten Free or any of those eye catching items. Everything should be natural and clean food. Now everyone says that you will see a difference in your health in just two weeks. So here we go, today is day one.
