ElderBerry Syrup

Cold and Flu season is the worst!!!!!! It never fails the kids go back to school after summer break and the never ending cycle of pass the cold begins. My kids already take a multi vitamin daily, with Elderberry Syrup you’re giving their immune system a boost.

I was first introduced to elderberry syrup from a friend who also convinced me to take a homeopathic class, we’ll get to that on another post, I was intrigued. I started my usual research and sure enough there are actual healing properties in elderberry. The berries and flowers of elderberry are packed with antioxidants and vitamins that may boost your immune system. They can help tame inflammation, lessen stress, and help protect your heart, too. A natural cold and flu remedy, elderberry is extremely beneficial.
You can even make elderberry gummies using the same recipe here

Here’s what you’ll need:

1 Cup dried Elderberries

6 Cups of water

1/2 cup of Honey or Date Syrup – For children

Mason Jars

Cinnamon, Star Anise, Ginger, Lemon zest (optional)

Start by soaking the dried elderberries in water. I soak them over night. The elderberries should plump up and absorb the water after soaking. Place both elderberries and water it is soaking in a pot and keep at a low simmer, for 30 minutes. You can add cinnamon, ginger, star anise and lemon zest at this time. I place them in a small piece of cheese cloth for easy removal.

Remove cheese cloth and Allow the elderberries to cool. Get your mason jars ready by adding two tablespoons of honey to each jar. I use 8 oz mason jars.

Then use an immersion blender to blend up all the elderberries. Strain and fill mason jars. Seal the jars and give them a good shake. Make sure you write the date on the jars to ensure freshness. Keep refrigerated for up to 3 months.
